Jill Hamilton, SESI President Met with EVNoire, GWRCCC & the Biden-Harris Staff on Advancing Racial Equity in Energy, Environment and Transportation
April 21, 2022 Jill Hamilton, President Sustainable Energy Strategies, Inc. and GWRCCC Chair, was honored to be part of the discussions with key staff from the Biden-Harris Administration on “Advancing Racial Equity in Energy, Environment & Transportation". The meeting increased the awareness among Biden-Harris staff and stakeholders about opportunities to advance equitable multimodal electrification, alternative fuels and environmental education and outreach, as well as workforce and economic development opportunities and advance public health. “There’s an urgency now to engage and elevate opportunities for vulnerable and frontline communities who have borne the brunt of transportation emissions due to historical and systemic inequities. This may be our only chance to leverage this transformational funding to accelerate multimodal EV adoption and workforce and economic development opportunities while also improving public health,” Dr. Shelley Francis, Co-Founder of EVNOIRE “These recommendations will help provide a real framework, for real solutions to help make real change to foster equity that expands opportunities for underserved communities and populations in energy, environment, transportation, and public health. This is an important moment history, we cannot become merely spectators or just consumers while these significant investments are being made in clean energy, transportation and the environment,” state Antoine M. Thompson, Executive Director of the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition. GWRCCC Press Release

GRANT SPOTLIGHT Ethanol Infrastructure and Education September 2021
Sustainable Energy Strategies, Inc. (SESI) works to provide a strong, vital ethanol voice to educate strategic Maryland ethanol stakeholders. SESI writes educational articles to be shared with trade organizations, state and county officials, retailers, fleet managers and Clean Cities stakeholders. SESI also works to share information with the Maryland Grain Producers on critical national ethanol developments, network with industry experts, and promote Maryland ethanol activities. Maryland has 54 Flex Fuel stations in operation today, which is a 15 station increase from 2019. Each public station sells an estimated 800,000 gallons of ethanol gallons annually, which means 54 stations moved an estimated 32 million gallons of ethanol in 2020. Thirty-two million gallons of ethanol equates to an estimated 12.5 million bushels of corn demand! A stronger corn demand pushes prices higher. These volumes are expected to continue to increase as more stations are being installed. Click this link to find flex-fuel near you! SESI has assisted the Maryland Grain Producers in ethanol advocacy and education for more than twenty years.
Maryland Grain Producers Check-Off Program The Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board is funded through the Maryland Grain Check-Off Program; when grain that is produced in Maryland is sold by a farmer, the Utilization Board receives one-half of a percent of its net value. The Check-Off program is voted on by referendum every five years and has always received a greater than 90% affirmation vote. Each year organizations and universities are encouraged to submit grant proposals in November for consideration by MGPUB. The Utilization Board gathers to hear presentations on each proposal and reports from the previously funded projects. Projects must improve the viability and profitability of grain production through research, education, or market development. For 2021, the Grain Producers will award $869,080 for 30 projects across the state. Congratulations to each recipient.
